Wait for the next address-zone calendar, not an old date
Council schedules hard waste in spring and autumn. Spring 2026 is marked complete, so check the next published address-zone calendar before setting out. Material can go onto the nature strip no more than 24 hours beforehand, keeping pedestrian and wheelchair access clear. Businesses, large apartment arrangements and some main-road properties have specific booking routes. A regular residential zone week is not automatic permission for every building or commercial address.

Volume does not override the twenty-kilogram item rule
Scheduled hard waste must take up less than 5 mÂł. Ordinary pieces must be shorter than 1.5 m and lighter than 20 kg, with the listed mattress length exception. Put mattresses in a separate accessible pile with nothing on top. Metal, whitegoods and e-waste appear in the accepted list; batteries of all types, gas bottles, tyres, building/renovation material, chemicals, asbestos and car parts are excluded. A roomy pile limit does not make heavy masonry eligible.

Price a paid collection and choose its actual available Friday
The council-contracted WM page lists $166.10 per collection plus $25.10 per mattress and $36.60 per fridge/air conditioner. Stay below 5 m³: the page’s up-to-five description also has stricter less-than-five conditions. Collections generally run Fridays, with Wednesday 11:59 pm AEST as the cutoff before the collection week. Its example reserves in the preceding week; do not assume any Wednesday guarantees the coming Friday. Pay at booking and use the portal’s eligible address and available date.

Resident proof changes the Weir Street mattress charge
Stonnington Waste Transfer Station is at 43 Weir Street, Malvern. Council lists $47 per mattress/base for residents with proof and $58 for non-residents. Domestic e-waste is listed free at drop-off, which does not remove the paid pickup’s item charges. The weighbridge determines applicable load charges, and cash/American Express are not accepted. Check the live item list before taking treated timber, paint, tyres, gas bottles or hazardous material. Use the moved council facility page rather than an old station link.
Daily skip charges do not waive restricted overnight streets
The council-land application is $40 plus $55 for each day of placement, over a requested period from one to thirty days. Use council’s self-service account and select the skip-bin permit. The page warns of assessment delays without a fixed processing guarantee. Overnight restrictions name Chapel Street, Commercial Road and the specified Toorak Road section between Rockley and Punt roads. Confirm the issued location and time conditions before arranging delivery; a longer permit period is not a waiver of a street restriction.
