Hard Rubbish Maroondah: Bookings, Items and Disposal

Maroondah has a small, item-specific home-improvement allowance within hard rubbish. It also says a reserved collection cannot be changed or cancelled, so finalise the inventory before choosing the week.

Rules and charges checked 14 October 2026. Local Skip Bins Melbourne is an independent referral service, not affiliated with Maroondah council or its collection contractor. Book council hard rubbish through the Maroondah council collection route. This page’s quote form is for private skip enquiries.

Reserve only when the contents and date are ready

The financial-year balance can be two single services, one double hard-waste service or one hard-waste plus one bundled-prunings service. Single hard waste is 2 m³ and double is 4 m³. Up to two additional paid collections are available; confirm the fee in the booking route. Book at least a week ahead where slots are available and put items out on the weekend before the confirmed week. Council says the booking cannot be changed or cancelled. Availability controls the date rather than a guaranteed one-week wait.

The home-improvement exception totals half a cubic metre

The list allows a total 0.5 m³ of specified home-improvement items, including cupboards, toilet fittings and up to six solar panels. It does not admit a bulk building-waste load. Three internal doors and ten nail-free timber pieces up to 1.5 m are separately listed; carpet is limited to two rooms with rolls up to 1.5 m. Concrete, bricks, rubble, soil, asbestos, fencing, decking, vehicle parts, gas bottles and home-business waste remain outside the collection.

Keep futons apart from the separate mattress pile

Up to three mattresses must be accessible in a separate pile with nothing on top. A futon belongs to general hard waste rather than that mattress stream. For fridges/freezers, remove the doors or tape them shut if removal is impossible. Accepted e-waste has an important battery condition: devices such as powered bikes and wheelchairs with embedded batteries are excluded unless the battery can be removed and is removed. The removed battery itself is not accepted hard waste.

Use the skip application and confirm its current charge

The council’s downloadable permit form records placement location, dates, bin size/count, waste type and contractor details. Its 2026/27 heading sits above a fee heading dated July 2024 and subject to annual change. Confirm the current charge before relying on the printed amounts. Describe whether the bin is on the roadway, nature strip or another public location and follow the form’s submission route. Permission for the spot and period is separate from the operator’s hire quotation.

Choose the waste-centre entry for the actual rejected material

The directory names Eastern Recycling, Knox Transfer Station and Recycling Centre, Montrose Transfer Station and Coldstream Transfer Station. Montrose is listed at 69–71 Canterbury Road and Coldstream on Leonard Road. Follow the council-listed facility routes for charges and acceptance. The small home-improvement exception at the kerb does not determine what a transfer station takes, nor does a refusal make the material suitable for a mixed skip. Keep batteries, chemicals and construction rubble described separately in any disposal enquiry.

For the private-bin alternative, compare measured skip sizes and Melbourne skip placement permission. Check the referral service-area guide and confirm delivery with the responding provider. Return to the Melbourne council comparison for another municipality.

Questions about this collection

Can I cancel after reserving the collection?

Maroondah’s published booking rule says collections cannot be changed or cancelled. Confirm the date and inventory first.

Are cupboards allowed even though building waste is refused?

The council lists a limited home-improvement exception totalling 0.5 m³, including cupboards and toilet fittings. Bulk building rubble remains excluded.

How should a futon be sorted?

It belongs in general hard waste; it is not put into the separate mattress pile. Up to three mattresses are allowed under the mattress rule.

What if I cannot remove a fridge door?

The council alternative is to tape the door shut. Do not import another council’s doors-off-only wording.

Can an electric bike go out with other electronics?

Only if its battery can be removed and is removed. Embedded-battery items are excluded, and the removed battery is not itself hard waste.

Are the skip form’s printed amounts current?

The form’s 2026/27 heading conflicts with a fee heading dated July 2024. Confirm the current charge through the permit route before relying on those amounts.
