Hard Rubbish Casey: Bookings, Items and Disposal
A Casey clean-out starts with the address balance and the August 2026 item list. A long couch can be eligible while a short piece of renovation rubble is not. Measure the whole pile before reserving the collection.
Rules and charges checked 14 October 2026. Local Skip Bins Melbourne is an independent referral service, not affiliated with Casey council or its collection contractor. Book council hard rubbish through the Casey council collection route. This page’s quote form is for private skip enquiries.
Use the January reset before choosing your week
Casey provides eligible residential properties with two included collections per calendar year, January to December. Vacant land is not eligible. Check the online address balance first; council says a recent reservation can take two hours to appear. Put the booked pile out on the Sunday before collection week and take a photo. If plans change, cancellation is available within two hours of booking or until 11:59 pm on that Sunday. Report a missed collection after 3 pm Friday.

Fit the contents into a three-metre-long pile
The limit is 3 m³, illustrated as 3 m long, 1 m high and 1 m deep. Ordinary items are no longer than 1.5 m and no heavier than 30 kg. Casey’s August 2026 inventory makes length exceptions for couches, mattresses, bed bases and fridges, but these still occupy the same three-cubic-metre allowance. There is no separately confirmed mattress-count entitlement in that list. For a bed set or large sofa, leave enough room for its actual shape rather than counting only the small items around it.

Prepare electronics, doors, tyres and carpet differently
Remove batteries from electronic equipment and remove doors from fridges/freezers. Standard car tyres are limited to four and carpet to three rolls. Empty paint tins need their lids removed; tins containing paint, loose batteries, gas bottles and asbestos are refused. Sort these items before setting out so the accepted appliances do not hide an excluded item within the pile. The list is specific to Casey and does not establish the same preparation rules in neighbouring councils.
Twelve fence slats do not make a building-waste collection
The inventory permits up to twelve timber fence slats. General building and renovation material, including concrete, bricks, plaster and benches, remains excluded. If a dismantled fence is mixed with masonry or a bathroom strip-out, separate the council-eligible items from the construction load. A private bin also needs the operator to confirm the material type and load limits; council refusal alone is not evidence that a general skip can accept everything.
Check accreditation before pricing a street skip
Casey’s one-off public-land route lists a $155 non-refundable application fee plus $155 per bin placement. An accredited operator has a separate annual route, so ask which permission covers the delivery. The application needs a location plan and $20 million public-liability cover in the applicant’s name. Council requires the application fourteen days before permission is needed and describes emailing successful permits within seven business days. Where private placement is not possible, the page states a maximum placement period of 7–10 days. Confirm the issued conditions before fixing a removal date.
Use a named drop-off destination for the rejected load
The council directory lists Hampton Park Outlook Transfer Station, Hallam Waste Transfer Station, Pakenham Waste Transfer Station and Cleanaway Lysterfield. Follow the facility links to check the actual material, charges and unloading requirements before travelling. A council listing does not guarantee that each station takes paint, batteries, asbestos or every renovation load. For a booked bin, give the measured pile, photos and the separate item categories so the responding provider can assess access and disposal.
For the private-bin alternative, compare measured skip sizes and Melbourne skip placement permission. Check the referral service-area guide and confirm delivery with the responding provider. Return to the Melbourne council comparison for another municipality.
Questions about this collection
Does Casey’s allowance reset in July?
No. The two included bookings run by calendar year, January to December. Check the balance for the residential address before reserving a date.
Can a long couch or mattress go in the pile?
The August 2026 inventory makes exceptions to the normal 1.5 m item length for couches, mattresses and bed bases. The whole collection must still fit within 3 m³.
Can I put an old timber fence out?
The list specifically allows up to 12 timber fence slats. That exception does not admit a general fence-demolition or building-rubble load.
What must I do to a fridge or electronic device?
Remove fridge/freezer doors and remove batteries from e-waste before setting it out. Loose batteries are not an accepted substitute.
How late can I cancel a Casey booking?
Council allows cancellation within two hours of making it or until 11:59 pm on the Sunday before the collection week.
Is the one-off skip permit just $155?
The published route lists both a $155 application fee and $155 per bin for placement. Ask which permit route the provider uses before treating either amount as the total.
