Hard Rubbish Banyule: Bookings, Items and Disposal
Banyule allocates booked waste by collection type. A mattress, a dismantled bed frame and a mixed clean-out can spend the address balance in different ways, even when the pile looks small.
Rules and charges checked 14 October 2026. Local Skip Bins Melbourne is an independent referral service, not affiliated with Banyule council or its collection contractor. Book council hard rubbish through the Banyule council collection route. This page’s quote form is for private skip enquiries.
Choose the waste type before using the calendar-year balance
Properties receiving council’s waste service get two allocations resetting on 1 January. A single hard-waste booking covers 1 m³ and a double 2 m³. A single mattress booking covers one mattress and single-piece ensemble base, or one mattress alone. A double accommodates the stated two-mattress and ensemble-base arrangements. A mixed mattress/hard-waste booking uses both allocations. Bed-frame parts belong to hard waste rather than a mattress booking. Additional allocations cannot be purchased, transferred between properties or refunded for cash.

Complete the reservation without waiting for the pink sticker
Check the address balance, select the collection category and size, nominate the location and available date, enter contact details and submit the accepted booking. Keep the reference and email/SMS confirmation. The pink sticker is optional; council says collection still happens without it. Set out the night before the selected day and no earlier than four days beforehand. Completion can occasionally extend up to two days after the booking, which is different from a booking lead time. At least one business day’s cancellation notice releases the used allocations.

Washing machines and refrigerators take different routes
Washing machines, dryers, ovens, microwaves, furniture and hot-water services appear on the hard-waste list. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners are excluded and directed to the paid Waste Recovery Centre route. Loose batteries, solar equipment, glass, gas bottles and building material such as concrete, plaster, soil, fencing and tiles are also refused. Do not put a fridge beside accepted appliances and assume one truck will take both. For TVs and computers, check the specific item route rather than treating every electrical device as accepted hard waste.

Check Bellfield’s current restrictions before loading rubble
The Banyule Waste Recovery Centre is at the corner of Banksia and Waterdale roads, Bellfield. The current page describes safety/infrastructure changes and says rubble is no longer accepted. Cardboard, e-waste and Paintback can reach capacity, requiring a return visit. Use its live item and fee table for separately charged appliances and the list of prohibited loads. Being a council facility does not make it an unrestricted renovation tip or guarantee space for every drop-off.
A public-access restriction needs more than a bin booking
The skip-permit route covers council roads, footpaths, nature strips and laneways; a wholly private-property placement does not use it. For a VicRoads-managed road, obtain its memorandum of authorisation first. If access is restricted, notify affected neighbours within 150 m at least seven days ahead and include the draft notice with the application. Council states five working days to respond. Confirm the assessed fee through the application route; no current charge is quoted here.
For the private-bin alternative, compare measured skip sizes and Melbourne skip placement permission. Check the referral service-area guide and confirm delivery with the responding provider. Return to the Melbourne council comparison for another municipality.
Questions about this collection
Does a mixed mattress and furniture pickup use one allocation?
It uses both annual allocations. Mattress collection and ordinary hard waste are distinct booking types.
Can I purchase a third allocation?
No. Banyule explicitly says additional collection allocations cannot be purchased. The Waste Recovery Centre is a different disposal service.
Must I wait for the pink sticker before the booked day?
No. The sticker is optional; council says collection still occurs without it. Keep the booking confirmation and follow the set-out date.
Will a fridge be collected with my washing machine?
No. Washing machines are on the accepted hard-waste list but refrigerators/freezers are excluded and directed to the paid recovery-centre route.
Can I use Bellfield for a load of concrete rubble?
The current Waste Recovery Centre page says rubble is no longer accepted during its changed operating arrangements. Check another approved destination for that material.
Who must be warned if a skip obstructs access?
Council asks for notice to affected neighbours within 150 m at least seven days ahead, with a draft notification letter submitted in the permit application.
